Are You Making These Forum Mistakes?

Postby captkirk » Mon Jan 08, 2007 7:13 pm

Hi All,

I must admit that I'm shocked to see people posting in forums without a Sig File and Website listed in their profile.

  • How much money are you leaving on the table for others to get because you're not listing a Website and Sig File in your forum Profile?
  • How can the members that browse the forum memberlist click on your website if you don't have it listed in your forum profile?
  • How can a member visit your website after clicking on your forum profile if you don't have a website listed?
  • How can a member click on your sig file if you don't have one listed in your forum post?

Hi CaptKirk,

A very good question and one that I have seen people fall into on many occasion.

Thankfully though I have to say no for myself, but thank you for making me think.

Kind Regards

Hi Capt

Hello Capt

I see this alot on forums people not using a sig file.It is there for the taking why not grab it up.

If the forum I am posting on does not have sig files in the options I just type mine in at the end of my post.

Thanks for bringing up this important topic.

Good points raised here, and I'd like to raise another one. Brand Identity.
Your Photo or Your Logo is paramount. I guess I'm no different to many here in so much as I'm a member of many Forums. It's not only a wise business decision but a way of meeting people and gaining valuable information. The very first thing I look for is the Brand Identity of the people on the page. Do I recognise any of them? I recognise most of them... The power of getting your message accross is multi faceted, and is served well by using a logo or a picture. Who is the unmistakeable face behind the Oreck 8 pound vacuum cleaner? Take away any reference to Oreck, stick him on my television screen with the sound muted and I'd still know what he is selling.
Best regards. Rod

It is better to make mistakes then to be perfect and do nothing.

Oh wait being perfect and doing nothing would be a mistake;)

Sometimes I get critized for my schelling er spelling.

And perhaps I should endever to be better but I like to have fun on the journey to sucess.

Some forums do get all bent out of shape if you put in a siggy.

One one I asked permission from a mod. That mod was cool with it but another mod had a cowfit.

So that may be why some people don't have siggys.

I have an intro on one forum with out a siggy. No one has said hi to me yet and they don't have an advert section.

Perhpas I'll put in a siggy;)

I learned the hard way.

Postby Coates217 » Sat May 12, 2007 12:28 pm

Yes. I had to learn the hard way. I'm new to the internet business. I had no idea what a sig was. I had to ask one of the members in an open forum. It was not fun. I got it now. Thanks.

Hi,

As Steven said, it's very good idea to bring up this problem.
After all, that's what forums are for, to share ideas and help each other.

Capt, good point.

I just joined this forum today and the FIRST place I went was to my profile to update my signature (and add an avatar).

This is first post with the "goodies", so hopefully it works. lol

To Sherlock, re: Branding

Postby lifeteambuilders » Tue Jul 03, 2007 9:06 pm

Hey Sherlock,

What do you thing about "branding" when we use a photo of
ourselves as our "avatar" instead of a logo?

Should we always use the same photograph?

Just curious. I've been using a few different ones....

Thanks for your thoughts!

Signature Line

Postby ninakacp » Thu Dec 13, 2007 2:25 am

When I first started joining forums I too could not figure out how those people got there web info on the bottom (stupid me did not realize that this was the sig. line.
I do belong to one forum that does not let you put in a signature line until you have been with them for at least 30 days and have had at least 7 posts.
My son belongs to a hunting forum that does not allow web address or any thing that may be considered as advertising in the signature line unless you are a paid sponsor (sponsorship costs start at $250 a month, can't afford that)

Now when I join a forum, the first thing I look for is where to put my signature.

good idea

Postby delamarketplace » Fri Oct 03, 2008 2:48 am

I know I have my sig line in many other forums, but since I just started here I have not included it yet, but I will be doing that. I think a lot of time we forget the things that are staring right in our face. We look so hard on how to get exposure and we forget the simple free things

sigs and pics...

Postby erixonline » Sat Nov 15, 2008 6:04 am

Hey all, sorry for butting in the middle of a conversation. Now that we all agree that sig files and brand pictures are probably the 2 most important steps to take after joining a forum, my question is how much signature file is too much?

How many links should you put on your signature?

I have sometimes used up to 3 depending on what and where I am promoting; however, I, lately, have been using only one link that is a catch all of just about everything I promote....kind of link the Capt's linkscout system where you house it all.

What about you? :?:
