I partly agree with Senesh, he feels real, not that McCain didn't but I think it was time to feel as if a real step forward was being taken towards change, shaking up the establishment and the status quo.
Obama and his family look so loving, that helped too I think, they seem very together and normal as well as seeming to have the kind of relationship that we all aspire to? Maybe subconsciously there was some kind of deep seated emotional response going on there - if he can maintain that close a family relationship in the face of separation and so much stress and pressure, he is the person, if anyone, who can help to develop the Nations relationships and heal at least some of the divides.
He also seems to enable people to feel more involved in the decisions and responibility of making government work. He keeps reminding everyone and trying to lead by example too that it's important for everyone to work together, accept their differences and find a way to move forward together, he doesn't shirk the issues or change his mind to suit public opinion, he thinks about how to stand up for what he believes but still tries to find a way to make that acceptable to those who disagree..
(Least that's how it seems to me lol - but I'm not American - we were on holiday over there when he won the election though and it was an absolutely tremendous time to be there - we were in Georgia and although the State of Georgia as a whole is Republican, there were so many people who were over joyed to see him elected, it was really emotional even for us as visitors..)
